2021 Industrial Neighbourhoods

Calgary Trail North

This project began in May 2020 and was mostly completed in October 2020. The project scope included drainage upgrades, concrete reconstruction (including growth sidewalk work along the southside of 58 Avenue and as well as along the Gateway Boulevard service road), roadway rehabilitation with a new asphalt overlay in addition to minor landscaping restoration.

Outstanding work in the area include:

  • EPCOR Technologies will be installing new street lighting on 58 Avenue, 103-104 Street and 59 Avenue, 103A-104 Street. New street lighting installation will take place starting in mid April 2021 and is anticipated to be completed by early May 2021.

  • Minor deficiency work will take place in summer 2021, which includes the placement of sod in areas where landscaping restoration could be not fully completed in 2020 due to weather constraints.

  • Additional deficiency work will occur in summer 2021 as required in accordance with final project inspections. This may include isolated sections of asphalt or concrete repairs in the area.

The work is primarily road reconstruction (which will include removal of existing asphalt and road base, placement of new road base, miscellaneous concrete repairs, and asphalt paving). In other areas, road rehabilitation will occur through a less invasive method of mill and overlay.

About the Program

As a part of the Neighbourhood Renewal Program, the City will be coordinating road construction in industrial neighbourhoods. Prior to construction starting, property owners will receive a bulletin outlining the estimated start and finish dates and contact information.

Industrial Neighbourhood Renewal consists of road rehabilitation and road reconstruction, depending on the condition of the road. Road rehabilitation includes asphalt overlay, or road reclamation first, then an asphalt overlay. Road reconstruction removes the existing asphalt and road base, and replaces it with a new road base and asphalt paving. Other spot concrete repairs are done as well.
