Ada Boulevard is scheduled for rehabilitation in spring 2021 as a number of the components are approaching the end of their service life.

Project Update - March 2021

The Ada Boulevard bridge is scheduled for rehabilitation to begin in spring 2021 to prolong its service life. This work will include a full closure of the bridge from April to October 2021. The exact dates of the closure will be posted on this webpage and on signage near the project site. A detour route has been developed (see map).

See the presentation or presentation recording for more information.

Traffic Impacts

The detour plan involves vehicle traffic being directed to cross over Wayne Gretzky Drive at 112 Avenue. The detour will be marked by clear signage in the project area.

The City thanks residents for their patience during this work.

About the Project

Ada Boulevard, over Wayne Gretzky Drive overpass, is a steel girder structure built in 1968 and includes 2 traffic lanes and a sidewalk. The bridge is owned and maintained by the City as part of the roadway network.

The bridge was last rehabilitated in 1997, and is now scheduled for rehabilitation to address a number of worn components that have reached the end of their service life. Work includes asphalt replacement, deck joint replacement, replacement of the bridge rails and painting the steel girders and piers. The rehabilitated bridge will include an upgraded and wider pedestrian and cyclist pathway matching the neighbourhood’s shared-use pathway.

The bridge rehabilitation project includes preliminary design, detailed design and construction to rehabilitate the structure.

Pedestrian Bridge

The pedestrian bridge near 104 Avenue over Wayne Gretzky Drive is planned for rehabilitation. This work will require various closures and detours throughout the project area. The rehabilitation will begin in early summer 2021. This work will include a full closure of the Pedestrian Bridge during the construction between mid-June to late-August 2021.

During construction, the shared-use path will be closed from 75 Street to the bridge and a temporary laydown area to support construction will be located south of the community garden within the clearing area. Access to residences and other properties will be maintained at all times, including emergency access. During construction, pedestrians can travel south to 101 Avenue to cross Wayne Gretzky Drive as a detour (see map).
