Expanding and improving Edmonton's parks and facilities involves ongoing long-term planning. Several plans and strategies make up the framework that responds to the City of Edmonton's future park and facility needs.

The Master Plan will increase opportunities to experience and enjoy the park while preserving and enhancing the ecological systems in place.

The City has developed the Approach to Community Recreation Facility Planning in Edmonton to guide investment in community recreation facilities.
The Fort Edmonton Park Enhancement project added new public exhibits and experiences for visitors to enjoy.
Edmonton's Ribbon of Green concept plan for the North Saskatchewan River Valley and Ravine System.
The City has developed a master plan that will enhance Queen Elizabeth Park's role as a city-wide destination park.
Edmonton helps seniors to be involved in the community and provides access to senior centres, support groups and many other programs and services.

The Urban Parks Management Plan (UPMP) provides strategic direction for all river valley and ravine parkland as well as all school and park sites outside the river valley.
