The Imagine Jasper Avenue project will revitalize the roadway from 109 - 124 Street to create welcoming spaces while maintaining access for commuters.

As of Wednesday April 14, 2021 at 9am, 113 Street from Jasper Avenue to 50 metres south of Jasper Avenue will be closed for approximately 4 weeks. Please use alternate routes.

Jasper Avenue from 109 Street to 111 Street is reduced to a single lane in each direction to accommodate Imagine Jasper Avenue Streetscape construction. Please detour using other routes. This closure is expected to last until October 31, 2021. Thank you for your patience.

The goal of Imagine Jasper Avenue and Jasper Avenue New Vision is to restore and elevate the avenue, giving it a consistent look and feel, highlighting the downtown core and providing a safe and enhanced experience for those who walk, bike, drive or use transit. Ultimately, the changes will support area businesses and attract visitors.

Highlights of both sections of Jasper Avenue include wider sidewalks, enhanced street furniture and plantings, new street and pedestrian lighting and full roadway reconstruction.

Project Overview

Construction on the aging roads and sidewalks along Jasper Avenue (109 Street to 124 Street) started in 2020. The Imagine Jasper Avenue project began as a community-led vision to not just remove and replace the infrastructure as it currently exists, but to use the reconstruction as an opportunity to enhance the avenue with an innovative, vibrant and relevant streetscape. A Jasper Avenue that would function as both a link and a destination; balancing the needs of the community, commuters, businesses and visitors.

Developing the design for Jasper Avenue, which began in September 2015, was guided by Main Street Guidelines, driven by technical and physical roadway requirements and informed by the public and stakeholders through 4 phases of engagement. The public engagement process allowed for input from all user groups including area residents, commuters, cyclists, pedestrians, business owners/operators, property owners and developers.

Input was used to inform the development of Vision and Guiding Principles, determine priorities and trade-offs as well as influence design possibilities. The Experience Jasper Avenue design demonstration from July - October 2017 allowed the City to test the design resulting in several adjustments to the plans.

Phase 1 of Imagine Jasper Avenue, 109 Street to 114 Street, has been approved and received funding for construction. Construction started on this portion in spring 2020. The remaining phases will be constructed as funding becomes available.
